GOOGLE QUANTUM AI III
Immersive Staircase Installation
Creative Direction + Design + Fabrication + Installation

SEARCH+RESQ collaborated with artist Forest Stearns to create a site-specific sculptural installation for the central staircase at Google’s Quantum Lab in Santa Barbara.

Working in response to Forest’s expressive mural, SEARCH+RESQ designed and fabricated a series of laser-cut three-dimensional forms that appear to emerge from the painted surface and extend into the surrounding architecture. Layered forms, color, and material move across the walls and through the stairwell, transforming the mural into an immersive spatial experience.

As visitors move through the staircase, the installation continually changes. Forms overlap and separate, perspectives shift, and moments of light and shadow reveal new relationships between the painted and sculptural elements.

Rather than being experienced from a single viewpoint, the work unfolds through movement—bringing painting, sculpture, and architecture together in a composition that reveals itself with every step.
