GOOGLE QUANTUM LAB
Site-Specific Art + Sculptural Installation
Creative Direction + Design + Fabrication + Installation

SEARCH+RESQ collaborated with artist Forest Stearns to create a site-specific sculptural installation for the central gathering space at Google’s Quantum Lab in Santa Barbara.

Working in response to Forest’s expressive murals, SEARCH+RESQ developed a series of laser-cut three-dimensional forms that extend the artwork beyond the painted surface and into the surrounding architecture. Layered wood, acrylic, color, and graphic elements move across walls, around corners, and through architectural thresholds—creating moments where painting and sculpture begin to merge.

The installation unfolds throughout the space, beginning near the entry and continuing into the central gathering area and surrounding circulation. As people move through the environment, the sculptural forms shift with light, shadow, perspective, and the changing compositions of the murals behind them.

Rather than treating the artwork and architecture as separate elements, the collaboration allows one to become part of the other—creating an immersive environment that invites curiosity, connection, and discovery.
